This past weekend, I visited Milwaukee's Harley Davidson Museum, and the special exhibit they had was "Worn To Be Wild: The Black Leather Jacket". Fortunately for me, I visited just in time since the exhibit finished up on September 3rd. And it was a very interesting exhibit, full of really cool jackets throughout history. They referred to the leather jacket as the Adventurist's Armor and The Antihero's Anti-Sportscoat, and there were many styles to see.
There was the first incarnation:
Many bomber-type jackets:
Staples of Rock-And-Roll style:
Blinged-Out designs:
And the chic look:
Although this exhibit at the Harley Davidson Museum is over, another is just around the corner. I don't know what the next special exhibit will be, but I'm sure it will be just as stunning.

Hey Jamie!
ReplyDeleteDidn't know you took (P)art in Alphabe- Thursday! Nice (P)post of an interesting exhibition. See you around next Thursday :)
Wow there sure are plenty of biker jackets in this exhibit, but then again if there weren't it wouldn't be much of an exhibit now, would it? There's a huge difference in style between the first to the last pictured. I love the bomber-type jackets the best and I just don't get all the studs. I guess it's suppose to look cool or bad or whatever, but I really don't get it. But, I'm not a motorcycle enthusiast so this explains a lot, as you may have guessed. lol Now following... ~Cathy
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cathy, for your follow and your comments. I remember seeing the Punk Rockers wearing the studded jackets in the 70's/80's but I'm glad fashion went back to the simpler style as well. It was a fun exhibit.
Deletethat's super cool! i never knew there were so many varieties :)
